HILDE M. F. KRESS
Longtime San Rafael artist
Hilde Maria Flander(?) Kress, an artist and longtime resident of San Rafael, died at home Friday, May 4, 1990. She was 73.
She was born in Freistadt, Austria, and came to the United States in 1938. She lived in Princeton, N.J., until she moved to San Rafael in the mid-1950s.
Mrs. Kress was a devoted artist, operating a studio in her home. She specialized in painting, but also enjoyed working with driftwood and amate bark paper.
For many years, she was a member of the Sight and Insight group.
She is survived by three sons, Stephen Kress of Santa Fe., N.M., David Kress of San Francisco and John Kress of San Rafael; a sister, Hedwig Zaunmuller of San Rafael; her husband, Frederick Kress of Poland; and a granddaughter. Another son, Paul Kress, died earlier.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mission Chapel of St. Raphael’s Church.
