Death of Samuel Murphy

Samuel Murphy, for the past fifteen years head blacksmith at the Railroad shops, was found dead in his room in the old Bay View House. He was last seen on Sunday, when he appeared to be in his usual good health. But little was thought of his non-appearance at the shops on Monday and Tuesday, as he often remained away for a day or two without notifying the Company, but when it was learned that he was not at his post on Wednesday, a friend went to his room, forced open the door and found him lying on the bed dead. It is thought he passed away Sunday night from fatty degeneration of the heart. Coroner Eden came down and took the remains to San Rafael, where an inquest was held Thursday, the jury rendering a verdict in accordance with the facts as stated above. Deceased came to Sausalito from Donohue Landing. He was an honorable man, his word being as good as his bond. His wife died in San Francisco about twelve years ago. He leaves a married daughter, who lives in Oakland; one son living in Placerville and two in Mexico. He was a native of Ireland and about 57 years of age.
