Hugh Luther Williams
Furniture store manager
Hugh Luther Williams, a retired furniture store manager, died at home Sunday, June 17, 1990, after a brief illness. He was 74.
Mr. Williams, a native of Paris, Ky., was bestowed the honor of “Kentucky Colonel,” by that state’s governor in recognition of his charity work and good citizenship.
He was a furniture store manager for more than 50 years in Covington, Ky., and past president of the retail merchants association of Kenton County, Ky. He moved to Marin County eight months ago to be with his family.
“He loved California,” said his daughter, Maralyn Polo, of Novato. “He planned to do a little fishing and a little traveling. He will be missed.”
Besides Mrs. Polo and her husband, Ernie Polo, Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Maralee V. Williams of Novato; another daughter, Joan Fagenbush of Indiana; five sons, Robert Brautigan and Hugh, Louis, Gregory and James Williams, all of Kentucky; three sisters, Edith Smoot, Maddie Bowman and Hazel Williams, all of Kentucky; and three brothers, Kenneth, Herman and Leonard Williams, also of Kentucky; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Tamalpais Mortuary in San Rafael. Viewing will be held Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Marin or the American Cancer Society.
