Injuries In Fall Kill Frank Silva
Losing control of his motorcycle while racing with another machine last Sunday, Frank Azavedo-Silva, son of Mrs. Joaquina Henriquez, was thrown into the ditch at the foot of Miller’s hill and fatally injured.
He was hurriedly removed to the Cottage hospital, where he died shortly after Dr. Dufficy arrived in response to a call. An examination disclosed that Silva had sustained a broken neck and a fractured skull, either one of which injuries probably would have caused death.
The accident happened, it is reported, while Silva and the older son of Supt. Jones of the County Farm were racing. Silva’s machine struck a soft stretch of roadway and became unmanageable. The rider was hurled several feet.
A sad feature of the affair was that Mrs. Henriquez, the boy’s mother, was a patient at the Cottage Hospital when he was carried in. She was kept in ignorance of all facts until the following day. Upon being told she insisted upon being taken to Coroner Sawyer’s parlors, where the body had been taken.
Silva was very well known in San Rafael, having been employed for some time as a driver of a milk wagon. He was 25 years old, the son of the late Francisco Azavedo, and the brother of Antonio Azavedo.
The funeral was held yesterday at the residence of the mother, 309 Fifth street, and a requiem high mass was said later at St. Raphael’s church. The remains were interred in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
The young man was a member of Mira Monte Camp. No. 359, W.O.W.
