Nina Carmela Cheda Point Reyes Pioneer Succumbs Sunday
Death claimed Mrs. Nina Carmela Cheda, one of the earliest residents of Pt. Reyes Station, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at her home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Cheda was born in Switzerland 81 years ago and came to this country on her wedding tour as the bride of Louis Cheda. They arrived here in 1877 and located at Millerton where Mr. Cheda engaged in the dairy business, later moving to Pt. Reyes.
Mr. Cheda had received his dairy business training in his native land and was one of Marin’s most successful ranchers. He died in 1885. When the couple located in Marin they saw the first train of the old North Pacific Coast Railroad pass through the county.
Deceased was the mother of Mrs. Henry Cheda, Edmund and Adolph Cheda of Pt. Reyes Station, and the late Emma Cheda and Mrs. L. R. Filippini, sister of S. Martinelli, Mrs. Isa Campigli of Olema and Mrs. A. Martella of San Francisco. She was also the grandmother of Mrs. William Scilacci of San Jose, Ralph and Adolph R. Cheda of Pt. Reyes and Lauren Cheda of San Francisco. Six grandchildren (sic) also survive.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning in Petaluma.
