W. N. Neff, Retired Head of N.W.P. Dies In San Francisco
William S. Neff, for many years general superintendent of the N. W. P. with his home in Sausalito, died Tuesday forenoon in the S. F. Hospital, San Francisco, after being ill for over a year, and which forced his retirement.
Neff served the company for three years before the World War and upon returning from over seas continued the superintendency for 10 years.
He was a native of Lawrence, Kansas, born there in 1874. His first railroad work was as clerk on the Missouri Pacific, finally became assistant superintendent of the Great Northern, and later advanced to superintendent of the St. Louis and Southwestern lines. In 1914 he came to the N. W. P.
During 1922, he was in Paraguay as president of the railroad system, and during the Federal control of the roads in this county, Neff severed (sic) on the Board of Executives. For a time, he also served as superintendent of Denver and Rio Grande.
