Mr. Martin, father of George Martin, who resides near Hitchcock School, met with an accidental death on Wednesday night. It seems that he lighted a gas heating stove to warm up the room and went to bed. In some way the tube slipped off and gas escaped, causing his death.
The death was not discovered until morning.

Death of W. H. Martin
Last week we briefly mentioned the death of W. H. Martin, retired capitalist who was accidentally axphyxiated (sic) last Wednesday night at the home of his son, Geo. A. Martin, in San Rafael. The deceased was the founder of the Powell street railroad and at one time a leading figure in western mining operations. He was the discoverer and part owner of the Rawhide mine of Tuolumne county, also of the great Copper Queen mines of Arizona, which have and still are producing enormously.
Mr. Martin was 78 years of age, and for some time had been in poor health.
