DORIS COLEMAN BETTS
Lifetime San Rafael resident

A Mass of Christian Burial for Doris Coleman Betts of San Rafael will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael’s Church in San Rafael. Mrs. Betts died at home Sunday, April 30, 1989. She was 62.

Mrs. Betts was born in San Rafael and graduated from San Rafael High School. She lived in San Rafael all her life.

Mrs. Betts worked at Montgomery Ward, first in San Rafael, then in Corte Madera, for almost 20 years before going to work as a bookkeeper at San Quentin Prison, a post s he also held for almost 20 years. She retired about three years ago.

Mrs. Betts’ husband, Bernard Betts, a correctional officer at San Quentin Prison, died earlier. She is survived by a son, George Coleman of Sonoma; three daughters, Colleen Williams of Corte Madera, Doreen Bechtold of San Rafael and Linda Williams of Belvedere; a stepdaughter, Sharon Starrott of Fairfield; a stepson, Lt. Cmdr. Lawrence Betts, M.D., of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, John Pareto and Edmund Pareto, both of San Rafael; eight grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

The rosary will be recited today at 8 p.m. at St. Raphael’s Church. Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael.

Her family asked that memorial contributions go to Hospice of Marin, Memorial Tribute Program, 150 Nellen Drive, Corte Madera, 94925.

Arrangements are being handled by Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
