RALPH F. FETTERLY
Ralph F. Fetterly of Novato, Independent Journal employee and a longtime printer, died yesterday in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Fetterly, 65, has worked with the machinery and computers at the I-J since 1962.
A native of Ohio, Fetterly was a machinist aboard the U.S.S. Longshaw when it was sunk off Okinawa in World War II. He received the Purple Heart.
A printer before joining the service, Fetterly was composing room foreman at a newspaper in Hollywood, Fla., in 1949, and of a San Antonio, Texas, newspaper in 1960.
In 1961, Fetterly and his family moved to Marin where he worked at the Mill Valley Record. A year later he joined the Independent-Journal, working there until his death.
