Stanley Halvorsen
Merchant Marine Officer
Stanley F. Halvorson, a retired merchant marine officer, died Saturday after a brief illness. He was 80.
Capt. Halvorsen was born in San Francisco and began his nautical career at 15, working on steam schooners.
One of his many wartime assignments include being mast of the S.S. Lassen, a Liberty ship.
His wife of 46 years, Geraldine Halvorsen, died previously.
He is survived by two sons, Stan Halvorsen II of Mill Valley and Robert Halvorsen of San Rafael; two daughters, Karen Johansson of Soquel and Jennie Noerr of San Francisco; and five grandchildren.
Burial will be private.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to St. Anthony's Dining Room or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 151685, San Rafael, 94915-1685.
