ALEX GEORGE HERRMANN

A private family memorial service will be held for Alex George Herrmann of San Francisco. Mr. Herrmann, who grew up in Marin, was found dead at home on Saturday. He had suffered several illnesses for many years. He was 37.

Mr. Herrmann was born in San Rafael, but lived in San Francisco until moving to Kentfield at the age of 11. He attended Adaline E. Kent School and graduated from Redwood High School. He got his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of Southern California. At both Redwood and USC he was a playwright, lyricist and actor.

Mr. Herrmann was publisher of Baby News, the mail-order catalog for his family’s business of infants’ and children’s clothing and nursery equipment.

Mr. Herrmann is survived by his mother, Goody Herrmann of Kentfield; and two brothers, Robert Herrmann of Lopez Island, Wash., and Ted Herrmann of Santa Monica. His father, Jiri Herrmann, founder of the family business, a theatrical innovator and artist, died in 1971.

His family asked that memorial contributions go to the Kidney Foundation of San Francisco.
