Marsha Adams

Marsha Adams of San Anselmo, a 1982 Bay Area Volunteer of the Year, died Saturday at Marin General Hospital. She was 38.

Miss Adams, who was severely crippled by rheumatoid arthritis was active in the Marin Center for Independent Living in San Rafael for three years. Although Miss Adams' physical condition caused her to suffer a great deal, Vernon Cox, also a volunteer at the center, said, "her pain, both psychological and physical were endured with so little complaint so as to seem not to exist at all."

When she was honored for her volunteer work, the center praised her for work as a peer counselor, intake coordinator and reader of stories to the blind.

She was born in Vallejo and lived in Red Bluff before moving to Marin County in 1978.

Miss Adams earned several degrees from the College of Marin and was currently studying psychology at Dominican College.

Miss Adams is survived by her parents, Westley and Mary Adams of Calistoga.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo. Burial will be at the St. Helena Cemetery in Napa County.

Her family asked that memorial contributions go to Dominican College.
