MARGARET VON DER AHE

A memorial service for Margaret Von der Ahe of Greenbrae, a retired stage actress known as “Phoebe Clark” and a former newspaper editor, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.

She died Monday, March 7, 1988, at The Tamalpais retirement home in Greenbrae after a short illness. She had lived there for the last 10 years. She was 89.

She was born in San Francisco and raised in Mill Valley.

She was a stage actress in San Francisco in the 1930s, later working in radio in New York and San Francisco. In San Francisco, she hosted a women’s shopping guide show on radio.

Mrs. Von der Ahe joined the Army during World War II.

She later worked as a newspaper reporter in Alaska, ultimately becoming a newspaper editor in Fairbanks, Alaska.

She met and married Karl Von der Ahe, chief oil engineer for the state of Alaska. He died in 1978.

Burial will be private.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the San Francisco Symphony.
