George F. Orr
A funeral for George Francis Orr of Santa Rosa, a longtime dairyman in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, was held today at the Parent Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma.
Orr died Wednesday at the London House Convalescent Hospital in Santa Rosa after a short illness. He was 84.
He was born in New York and was reared there and in Germany. On his return to the United States, he lived in New Jersey and San Francisco before moving to Petaluma in 1938.
Orr had been a leader in the Guernsey dairy industry and had operated ranches for more that 40 years. He retired in 1969.
He was a veteran of World War I.
He was a 55-year member of the Park-Crockett Masonic Lodge in San Francisco and also belonged to Santa Rosa Scottish rite Bodies, the Aahmes Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. and Sonoma County Shrine Club.
Orr was also a member of the High 12 Club of Santa Rosa, Tamalpais Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 29th Division Association, Veterans of World War I, Telephone Pioneers of America, American Guernsey Cattle Club, California Guernsey Cattle Club and North Bay Guernsey Cattle Club.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Hazel Knudsen Orr of Santa Rosa; his son, Clifford R. Orr of Santa Rosa; his daughter, Virginia L. Reed of McArthur, Shasta County; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
The family prefers that contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in San Francisco.
