JAMES ORDWAY

Funeral for James H. Ordway, a retired Petaluma retailer, was held today in Petaluma.

Ordway, 61, died Saturday after becoming ill at his home, 909 Samuel Drive, Petaluma.
He was dead on arrival at Hillcrest Hospital.

Ordway was manager of the J. C. Penny store in Petaluma from 1967 until his retirement three years ago. He had worked for the firm since 1937 and had been with stores in the Midwest, Willits and Fairfield before moving to Petaluma.

After he retired, he helped his wife, Marian, operate Denton’s apparel shop in Petaluma.

He was a member and past director of the Petaluma Golf and Country Club and the Petaluma Lions Club and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

During World War II, Ordway was a chief radio technician aboard the submarine USS Pickerel. He was a native of Marshall, Mo.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Catherine Ann Christo of Benecia and Rebecca Ordway of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, James C. Ordway of Eldridge, John C. Ordway of Sacramento and Robert C. Ordway of Petaluma; two brothers, David Ordway and William Ordway, both of Missouri, and a sister, Mary Alyce Straatman, of Missouri.

Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Petaluma. The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity
