Sonoma Coroner Vernon Silvershield Succumbs At 58
Santa Rosa – Vernon Silvershield, 58, Sonoma county coroner since 1940, died at his home today, apparently from a heart attack. He suffered a coronary attack several months ago.
A reporter and photographer for the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat before he was appointed coroner in 1940, he served four consecutive four-year terms and was unopposed in the June primary for a fifth term which would have started in January.
Silvershield is survived by his wife, Eleanor; a son, Vernon Jr. of Reno; a daughter, Mrs. Carmen Fromway, wife of a Santa Rosa policeman; two brothers, Duncan S. of Santa Rosa, and Harold of Sacramento, and his mother, Mrs. Henry Silvershield, Santa Rosa.
