Rites For Lawrence M. Douglas
Memorial service for Lawrence M. Douglas of Mill Valley will be 7:30 p.m., Wednesday in Mill Valley Community Church.
Douglas, 44 was Friday night near Juneau, Alaska, when a ledge on an ice field gave way, tumbling him down a cliff.
Douglas, a mountaineer, was leading a Sierra club outing to Glacier Bay and Juneau Ice Field. The rest of the party was unhurt.
The party of 23 included his wife, Helen; a daughter, Cheryl, 19 and his son Craig, 12. Another daughter, Anita, 15, did not make the trip.
A native of Meridian, Idaho, he graduated from the University of Idaho and served in the Navy during World War II.
He moved to Mill Valley in 1949, and resided at 15 Marin Avenue.
He owned and operated Lawrence Douglas and Associates, Mill Valley engineering appraisal firm.
He was a member of the Sierra Club's San Francisco Bay chapter for 15 years and served on the outing committee. He also was a member of Mill Valley Tennis Club, Mill Valley Community Church, American Society of Appraisers and for the past two years, managed Mill Valley Lions Club's Little League team.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and son; his mother Mrs. Floy C. Douglas of Mill Valley, and a sister, Mrs. Lois Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.
His family asked that memorial contributions go to the Sierra Club's Conservation and Memorial Fund.
