GERALD E. PHILLIPS
A memorial service for Gerald E. “Sebastian Stone” Phillips of Mill Valley, a former radio disc jockey who became a TV syndicator, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mill Valley Community Church.
He died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1987, at home unexpectedly. He was 51.
He was born in Memphis, Tenn., and raised in Pulaski, Tenn.
Mr. Phillips attended the University of Tennessee and served in the National Guard.
He owned and operated HMS Communications in San Francisco, a television syndication company for the last six years. The company distributed short news and feature segments for TV, including programs featuring Dr. Dean Edell.
His nickname, “Sebastian Stone,” dated back to his days as a radio personality. He was a disc jockey and program director for KFRC radio station in San Francisco in the 1960s and 1970s.
He also was a program director for WOR radio in New York and a disc jockey for KHJ radio in Los Angeles.
He had lived in Mill Valley for the last five years, moving there from San Francisco.
Survivors are his wife, Nancy S. Phillips of Mill Valley; two sons, Tod Phillips of Eugene, Ore., and Jesse Phillips of Mill Valley; a daughter, Cyndi Phillips of Pulaski, Tenn.; his parents, Guy and Mabel Phillips of Pulaski; a sister, Carole Phillips of Memphis, Tenn.; and five brothers, Larry Phillips of San Diego, Richard Phillips of Franklin, Tenn., Paul Phillips of New Orleans, John Phillips of Charlotte, N.C., and Jeff Phillips of Nashville, Tenn.
