FRED TOVANI

Requiem Mass for Fred Tovani, a versatile amateur artist who had lived in Marin for 25 years, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in St. Anselm’s Church, San Anselmo, with entombment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.

Tovani, 75, died Sunday in a local hospital after a brief illness.

A native of Lucca, Italy, he had lived in California for 65 years, in San Francisco before moving to Marin.

He was a retired cement mason, last with the Barrett Construction Co. in San Francisco for 25 years.

As a hobby, Tovani made and played his own guitars. He also did decorative copper work, oil painting and wood carvings.

Survivors are his wife, Velma Tovani of the home at 20 Sierra Avenue, San Anselmo; a daughter, Jane Anderson of San Luis Obispo; a son, Gordon Tovani of San Rafael; a brother, Americo Tovani of Berkeley, four sisters, Nina Spencer of San Anselmo, Josephine Crall of Los Gatos, Albertina Frediani and Stella McDonnell of San Jose, and four grandchildren.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Anselm’s Church and the El Retero Retreat Association, Los Gatos.

The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Spiritual bouquets are preferred.

A Death Announcement in the same paper adds that he was the grandfather of Mrs. Patty Dalton, Barbara and Russell Anderson and Gail Tovani.
