Former Marinite Dies In Willits
Word was received in Marin today that H. Fred Nelson, former Northwestern Pacific Railroad roundhouse foreman in Sausalito and Willits, died Sunday at his Willits home after a long illness. He was 74.
He was one of the railroad’s old timers in Southern Marin and was in Sausalito until 1915, when he was transferred to Willits. He stayed there until 1922 when he joined the state Division of Highways, for which he worked until he retired.
He was a native of Brainerd, Minn. He had served as master of the Masonic Lodge in Willits.
He is survived by his wife, Orletta, in Willits; a brother, Eugene of Sausalito; a sister in Spokane, Wash., and a niece, Mrs. Anna Purcell of Sausalito.
Funeral services were held yesterday in Willits followed by inurnment in Santa Rosa.
