MARY FRANCES FRAZIER
Community volunteer

“Frankie” Frazier died at her Sonoma home on Feb. 17 at 69.

She lived in Marin for many years, teaching disabled children and keeping active in volunteer organizations.

A native of Bingham County, Utah, she graduated from Wasatch Academy and Stanford University. During the 1970s, she lived in Vermont, where she helped coordinate special education programs. She moved to Sonoma in 1980 and continued working with disabled students.

She was an active member and guide for the Sierra Club, leading river trips. In 1971, she was one of the first women to kayak the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. By the time she retired from river running, she had tested the Colorado River more than 18 times.

She was active in the Marin Canoe Club, the Madrone Audubon Society, Native Plants Society and the Bouverie Audubon Preserve in Glen Ellen, where she served as historian.

She is survived by three children, Tom Strathairn of Encinitas, David Strathairn of Clinton Corners, N. Y., and Anne Jean of Puyallup, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions go to the Audubon Canyon Ranch/Bouverie Audubon Preserve, P. O. Box 1195, Glen Ellen 95442. Memorial services are being planned for a later date.
