Lillian Fitzgerald Seaver of Mill Valley died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 1990, at home after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. She was 69.
She was a journalist and public relations specialist.
Mrs. Seaver was a native of Sausalito and a 1939 graduate from Tamalpais High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of California at Berkeley in 1943. She also received her master’s degree in English from Dominican College in San Rafael in 1960, where she taught journalism and was the director of public affairs for the college for a decade.
During her years at Berkeley, Mrs. Seaver wrote a campus column called “Campus Calliope” for the San Francisco Chronicle. She created the column to keep the public aware of the activities with fraternities, sororities and other events at University of California.
Throughout her career, she served as a reporter for the Daily California, San Francisco Chronicle, Mexico City Times, the Honolulu Star Bulletin and the Mill Valley Record. Mrs. Seaver traveled overseas to Europe and Japan during World War II as the Chronicle’s foreign correspondent. She was employed by the government as an archivist in Japan during the Occupation.
In addition to her daughter Keven, Mrs. Seaver is survived by her husband, Martin Seaver of Mill Vally; and a sister, Norma W. Martinsen of Palos Verdes Estates.
A memorial celebration will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn, 1010 Northgate Drive in San Rafael.
