LOUIE CLARENCE WOMACK

Louie Clarence Womack of San Rafael, a 35-year resident of Marin County, died Thursday in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 71.

Womack was onetime owner of the Mahook Market in Corte Madera and was formerly a San Quentin Prison correctional officer, in addition to spending yeas as a builder and developer. He was a retired member of the carpenter’s union.

He and his late wife, Virginia Womack, were married for 50 years.

He was born in Farmington, Mo. Before moving to Marin in 1945, he was employed with General Motors in Michigan, and received the Carnegie Medal for lifesaving there.

He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Chaisson of Quartz Hill, Los Angeles County, and Ethel Warren of Campbell; a son, Clarence Womack of Petaluma; a sister, Lena De Mare of Mill Valley; four brothers, Fred Womack of Farmington, Mo., Chester Womack of Elk Grove, Orville Womack of Hemet and Bill Womack of Sacramento; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Friends may call at the mortuary from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at (sic) 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be private in Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose.
