WILLIAM BUTTERWORTH Jr.
William J. Butterworth Jr., 54, who lived almost all his life in Marin County, died in a San Francisco veterans’ hospital Monday after a long illness.
Butterworth was born and reared in Sausalito and attended Tamalpais High School.
He served with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he returned to Marin and lived in various areas and worked at several jobs, including as a truck driver.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 7776 of Sausalito.
Surviving are his mother, Carmelita Butterworth of Marin City; his daughter, Sandy Backer of Santa Rosa; three brothers, Theodore Lorentzen of Larkspur, Robert Butterworth of Petaluma and Francis Butterworth of Penngrove; four sisters, Elizabeth Nolze and Adrianna Arcy, both of Pomona, Florence Gilley of Pacifica, and Rose Guzman of Milpitas; and one grandson.
The Neptune Society in San Francisco is in charge of arrangements. No funeral is planned.
The family prefers donations to a favorite charity.
