MATILDA L. GRIGSBY
Matilda L. Grigsby, retired Dominican College housemother, died Sunday in the college infirmary after an illness of several months. She was 71.
Miss Grigsby was born in Guatemala and came to the United States as a small child with her foster mother, Louise Matilda Reed of Berkeley.
She attended the Cora L. Williams private school in Berkeley and then Dominican Convent Upper School.
Miss Grigsby lived in Sebastopol before moving to San Rafael in 1959. She served as housemother at Pennafort, one of the student residences at Dominican, from 1959 until she retired in 1973.
She also was an employee of Nathe Food Service.
Miss Grigsby was a member of the SPRSI lodge and the Young Ladies Institute of Sebastopol and the Druids in Occidental.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Dominican Convent Chapel. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland.
Memorial contributions are asked for the Mother Raymond Scholarship Fund of Dominican College.
