Dorothy Olney, 68, Dies

Memorial service for Dorothy Olney, former librarian at College of Marin and daughter of the college’s first president, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross.

Miss Olney, 68, died Monday at a local hospital after a long illness. Her home was at 30 Acacia Avenue, Kentfield.

Miss Olney was born in Fresno and moved to Marin in 1926. Her father, A. C. Olney, for whom Olney Hall was named, was founder and first president of College of Marin.

Miss Olney was a graduate of Stanford University, where she was named to Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She studied further in Italy after graduation and then returned to the University of California at Berkeley for library studies.

She worked as a librarian in San Mateo and then became assistant librarian at College of Marin in 1947. She also served as supervisor of adult education at the college at one time.

She retired in 1957 because of ill health.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Hallor of Larkspur.

Burial will be in Berkeley.

The family prefers contributions to a favorite charity.
