EDGAR V. CARLSON
Edgar V. Carlson, 70, a retired Coast Guard officer from San Rafael, died Friday night at Letterman Hospital in San Francisco.
Memorial arrangements are pending.

EDGAR V. CARLSON
The memorial service for Edgar V. Carlson of San Rafael, a retired Coast Guard captain, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Presidio of San Francisco.
Carlson, 70, died Friday at Letterman Hospital at the Presidio.
He was a native of Jamestown, N.Y. He graduated from the U. S. coast Guard Academy in 1934 and served 30 years on active duty with the Coast Guard. He was stationed at various times in Alaska, Seattle, San Francisco and Long Beach and served on the staff of the commandant of the Coast Guard in Washington, D.C.
During World War II he served in the South Pacific in command of combatant vessels.
After retiring, Carlson lived in Santa Rosa for four years before moving to San Rafael.
He was a member of the Coast Guard Retired Officers Association and Sons in Retirement. He also participated in several volunteer programs in Marin.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two daughters, Shannon C. Reynolds of Fairfax and Karen A. Carlson of Madison, Wisc.; one son, Edgar T. Carlson of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Agens (sic) C. Harvey and Elvira C. Bloss; two brothers, Rolland A. Carlson and Edwin J. Carlson, all of New York state, and four grandchildren.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Marin.
