Mill Valley Man Kills Self With Ice Pick
David Finnie, Mail Carrier of S. F., Takes Life

David A. Finnie, retired mail carrier of San Francisco, residing at #95 Sequoia Road, Mill Valley, told his wife early Monday morning to deliver a message of apology to a neighbor. His wife complied with the request and when she returned home she found her husband dead.

He had committed suicide by driving an ice pick through his heart.

Finnie was 59 years of age and a sufferer from a heart ailment. Despondency over his continued illness is given as the reason for Finnie taking his life.

Finnie sent his wife to a neighbor’s house twice. The first time she returned with the reply that the neighbor would be over in a few moments. He waited a short time, then repeated his request, stating that he owed an apology to the neighbor and that his wife again leave and bring the neighbor on her return.

This gave him the opportunity to find the ice pick and his wife was horrified to find his lifeless body on the floor when she reentered the home.

The body was brought to San Rafael by Coroner J. Ray Keaton, and removed Tuesday to the funeral parlors of Ganter, Felder & Kenny, San Francisco.
