Mrs. MARY SILVA, Aged 75, Dies in San Rafael
Left Destitute Years Ago, She Got Work and Saved Money
San Rafael, August 3 - MARY J. SILVA, known throughout San Rafael as "Aunt Mary", died at the West End Sanitarium here today. She was 75 years of age and the mother of 19 children, all of whom passed away before reaching middle age. Her husband, Frank Silva, died nearly 30 years ago.
"Aunt Mary" was a native of California and had resided in Marin County at Reed's Station and San Rafael for more than half a century. Upon her death of her only surviving child, 10 years ago, she was left destitute. Instead of applying to the county for aid, however, she got a job as janitress of two downtown buildings, and besides earning her own way, saved a tidy sum.
