Pioneer Resident Dies at Home in Northern Marin
In the passing of William B. FAIRBANKS on May 28, Tomales has lost one of its oldest and most widely known residents, and a member of one of Marin's pioneer families.
Mr. FAIRBANKS was born at Tomales 70 years ago. He was educated in Tomales schools and was a lifelong resident of the area in farming activities.
His father, William R. FAIRBANKS, was one of the best known and most beloved pioneers of the northern Marin area, coming to California via Cape Horn when a child. He served in the Civil War and settled in Tomales in 1865. He conducted the Tomales-Petaluma stage lines for many years, during which time he was also a successful rancher, and a leader in community development.
Mr. FAIRBANKS is survived by two brothers, George and Joseph, and a sister, Mrs. Charles MARTIN.
Interment was in the Tomales Catholic Cemetery.
