Richmond Man Dies as Result of Bee Sting
Death moved ruthlessly Sunday when JOHN WILLIAM FOWLER, Richmond, expired at the Marin Country Club a short time after being stung by a bee.
FOWLER and his wife were lunching at the Club when a bee lit upon his lower lip. He brushed it off and continued eating. In a few moments perspiration broke out in beads on the victim's face, and he lapsed into a coma. An ambulance was summoned and FOWLER was taken to Ross General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Deputy Coroner William Keaton attributed death to shock and edema of the brain, a swelling of tissues.
FOWLER, a guard for the Merco Nordstrom Valve Company in Richmond, was 53 years of age. He had come to Marin County to exhibit a dog in a local show.
