ALICE ‘GAY’ BEST
A funeral for Alice “Gay” Best of San Anselmo was to be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross.
Mrs. Best died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1989, at Marin General Hospital after a short illness. She was 95.
She was born in England and had lived in San Anselmo for six years.
Mrs. Best previously lived in Corona Del Mar and Newport Beach.
“She was a great gardener and lover of the outdoors,” said her daughter, Joy Gade of San Anselmo.
She said her mother attended an agricultural college in England, and learned to shear sheep and in World War II she worked as an ambulance attendent.
Mrs. Best was a homemaker.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She will be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.
