GEORGE ROSS

A private memorial service has been held for George Ross of Novato, a former broadcast executive and Marin resident for many years.

Ross died Wednesday in a local convalescent hospital following a brief illness. He was 72.

Ross was born in Alameda County, where he lived until moving to Marin in the 1950s. He was a singer and dancer and often performed at the Fox Theater in San Francisco. During World War II, he put on numerous shows to help the sales of war bonds.

He also worked in broadcasting, first as a broadcaster in Stockton and later as manager of radio stations in Monterey and Santa Rosa. For 18 years he was national sales manager for Golden Empire Broadcasting Company.

He was a member of the San Francisco Advertising club, past president of the Stockton Advertising Club, a member of the San Francisco Press Club, the Corinthian Yacht Club and the U. S. Coast Guard Reserve.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, of Novato; a stepson, Jack Garrigan of Santa Rosa; and a stepdaughter, Joanne Cook of Honolulu. The family prefers memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation.
