DON W. DIXON

A memorial service for Don W. Dixon of Loch Lomond, a retired Army colonel, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Presidio Protestant Chapel.

Dixon died Thursday at a local hospital after a sudden illness. He was 66.

A native of Williamsville, Ill., he graduated from University of Illinois in 1936. Dixon entered the Army after graduation and served in the African and European campaigns during World War II. He also served in the Korean War.

Dixon later served as deputy chief of staff for the U.S. military advisory group in Japan from 1959 to 1961. He returned to the United States that year to become chief of staff of the 91st Division at Fort Baker.

Dixon retired from the military in 1966, but continued working as a civilian assistant to the division commander at Fort Baker until January of 1979.

Upon his retirement, Dixon was awarded the First Oak Leaf Cluster to the Army Commendation Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Dixon; a daughter, Karen Feldman of Lafayette; a sister, Anabell Edwards of Champagne, Ill.; three brothers, Dwayne Dixon of Bloomington, Ind., Carl Dixon of Lakeland, Fla. and Dale Dixon of San Antonio, Texas.

The family prefers donations to a favorite charity.
