SEBASTIAN ‘JACK’ CIMINO

The funeral for Sebastian “Jack” Cimino of Fairfax will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.

Cimino was founder and longtime owner of the Cimino Electric Co., a leader in service club activities and lodge organizations, and a former member of the Fairfax School District board and the Fairfax Planning and Recreation commissions.

He died Monday at his home, suffering a heart attack while working in the yard, the family said. Gardening was one of his favorite pastimes. He was 76.

Cimino, born in Florida, came to Marin with his parents in 1931. Early last year, he sold the electrical contracting business he founded in 1945.

He was a past lieutenant governor of Kiwanis International Division 8 and past president of the San Rafael Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Marin Lodge No. 191 of the Masons, the Islam Temple Shriners in San Francisco, the Marin Shrine Club and other Masonic organizations.

For many years he was a strong supporter of a wide range of youth activities through his organization memberships and as an individual. His family recalled that he was active in training electrical apprentices, helping many Marin young men become journeymen electricians.

He also donated time and labor to the Marin Art and Garden Center, Girl Scouts, the Fairfax Community Church and civic betterment projects. He was active in the Ross Valley Players and often was lighting expert for their productions.

His firm did much commercial work in Marin, including schools and the lights at Albert Field in San Rafael.

Cimino and his wife, Dorothy B. Cimino, were married in San Francisco in 1925.

He also is survived by a son, Robert B. Cimino in Los Angeles, and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Burial will be private.

The family prefers memorial contributions to the Shriners’ Hospital of San Francisco.
