RAMONA STALLINGS
Owner of Ramona’s restaurant
Ramona Stallings of San Rafael, owner, operator and chef of Ramona’s on C Street in San Rafael, died Dec. 12, She was 85.
“The restaurant was her life,” said her daughter, Barbara Paolini of San Rafael.
Ramona’s was in operation more than 35 years and Mrs. Stallings’ customers and friends numbered in the thousands. Her culinary abilities were noted by food critics, including Jack Shelton and Bill Citara, and she was a recognized professional in development of authentic Mexican haute cuisine.
She was born in Sinaloa, Culiacan, Mexico in 1913 and came to the United States as a child.
She was a member of St. Raphael’s parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Paolini of San Rafael; a son, Kenley Stallings of Point Richmond; three grandchildren, Linda Stallings, Valerie Lafferty and Sabrina Bohan; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Sofia.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, San Rafael.
