LEWIS F. OHLEYER

Lewis F. Ohleyer, a resident of Novato and retired San Francisco commissioner of domestic relations, died Sunday after a long bout with cancer. He was 69.

Ohleyer retired in 1975 from a post as San Francisco’s commissioner of domestic relations which advised courts on parent fitness in child custody cases and sought to mend broken marriages. He was in that post since 1962.

Before becoming a commissioner, Ohleyer worked for 18 years in San Francisco as a probation officer for juvenile delinquents.

A native of San Francisco, he graduated from Saint Ignatius High School and the University of San Francisco.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ohleyer of Novato; two daughters, Carol Ricci of San Bruno and Dona Coffey of Illinois; a son, Michael Ohleyer of Greenbrae; two sisters, Helen Smith of Rio Vista, and Marion Levien of San Francisco; and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Saint Ignatius Church in San Francisco. He will be buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

The Rosary will be recited at 8 tonight at the Evergreen Mortuary in San Francisco.

The family prefers that any contributions be made to the Hanna Boys Center.
