Arthur C. Painter

Arthur C. Painter, 68, of Novato, died Friday in a local hospital after a lengthy illness.

Painter was born in West Chester, PA and graduated from Temple University. He had lived in Marin since 1957.

Painter worked on federal art projects during the late 30s and early 40s and during World War II was a veneral (sic) disease control educator with the U.S. Public Health Service.

He joined Kaiser-Permanente Medical Care Program as a field representative in 1948 and retired in 1966.

His family noted that Painter made a remarkable adjustment to the loss of his right arm in a hunting accident at the age of 17, and was an excellent golfer, trout fisherman, league bowler and lapidarist. (sic)

His is survived by his wife Wendy; five daughters, Anne Schumacher of Sebastopol, Anne Scott of Honolulu, Lynn Lawhern of Vancouver, Wash., April Bahr of Bucks Harbor, Maine and Judith Painter of San Diego; a son, Beckford Painter of Hayfork, Trinity County; and a step-sister Kathryn Stewart of West Chester.

At his request, no funeral will be held.
