Death Calls Mary E. Gardiner at Corte Madera Wednesday
Mary E. Gardiner, town clerk of Corte Madera for many years, and sister of Miss Edna Maguire, candidate for school superintendent in the November election, passed away at her home Wednesday in Corte Madera.
She was the daughter of F. F. Maguire, and the late Estelle Maguire, and the wife of the late Jas. A. Gardiner, who died in Larkspur in 1925. Upon the death of her husband Mrs. Gardiner, with her three children, James Francis, Donald William and Katherine Estelle Gardiner, removed to Corte Madera.
Mrs. Gardiner was born at Lowell Hill, July 1, 1891. At eight years of age she moved with her parents from this Nevada county mining town in Mariposa county (sic), where her father was superintendent of one of the mines in that county.
She graduated from the Princeton, Cal. grammar school in 1908, and then went to Berkeley where she attended business college. She became an employee of the Spring Valley Water company in 1909 and later was made cashier of the company.
She resigned her position to become the wife of James A. Gardiner. Besides the three children, she is survived by three sisters, Sarah Edna Maguire, Mildred Maguire and Mrs. Louis T. Milbern(?). Her brother, Frank T. Maguire, Jr. and her father Frank T. Maguire Sr., also survive.
The funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 11, at 11 o’clock a.m. from the mortuary of Keaton and Dusel, San Rafael. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, San Mateo county.
