FRANCIS POWELL

Francis R. Powell, 70, a retired electrician, died yesterday at a local hospital after a long illness.

A native of Yugoslavia, Powell came to the United States 64 years ago and had lived in Petaluma for 50 years. He had been employed for 30 years as an electrician at Hamilton Air Force Base and Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He had been a custodian at St. Vincent School for five years.

He is survived by six sons, Harold J., Anthony B., Francis R., Ernest H. and Robert L. of Petaluma and William J. of Santa Rosa; two daughters, Frances Burke of Petaluma and Anna Schwartzenberg of Novato; 26 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Requiem Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Petaluma, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Parent Funeral Chapel, Petaluma.
