C. M. Tot Falls From Car
Is Crushed Under Wheels

Eighteen-month-old Laurence White of Corte Madera was fatally crushed yesterday beneath the wheel of a car driven by his mother, Mrs. William White.

According to the coroner’s office, Mrs. White was backing our of the garage when the child fell from the car and the front wheels passed over him. The accident occurred at 4:45 p.m.

Coroner’s office reported that as she was backing from their home near the Paradise Cove road outside of Corte Madera, the car door flew open and the child fell out. A front wheel either pinned the baby down or ran over him.

The baby died an hour later at a local hospital, apparently from chest injuries, the coroner’s office said. An autopsy is to be conducted today.

Funeral has been set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Holy Innocents’ church, Corte Madera. Burial will be private.

The infant is survived by his father and mother, William and Leah White; his grandparents, Mrs. Mary H. White, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Simon, of Corte Madera. He was the nephew of Jay Simon.

Charles White, late grandfather of the child, was first fire chief of Corte Madera. Frank Nelson, present Corte Madera fire chief, was the baby’s godfather.

The parents live at the home of Clyde Simon, on the old Reed ranch and are in the process of building a new home there.

Simon is business agent for the Teamsters union in San Rafael. White works at the Fairfax Lumber company, and was once a candidate for councilman at Corte Madera. He is secretary to the Corte Madera volunteer fire department.
