CHRIS IBANEZ
A memorial Mass will be said Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel at the San Rafael Mission Arcangel for Chris Ibanez of Bordeaux, France, a former Marin resident.
Ibanez, 48, died unexpectedly of an illness Sunday in France.
Ibanez was born in France and came to this country in 1956. He was a jazz pianist and played initially with the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco.
He also played at the Executive Suite in San Francisco and played on numerous radio shows. He entertained at numerous clubs in both San Francisco and Marin.
He also had his own club, C’est Bon, in San Francisco.
He moved to Marin in 1961 and returned to France about two years ago where he continued to play in various clubs.
He is survived by a son, Christian Ibanez of Oakland; four daughters, Laura Jennings of Daly City, Colette and Marcelle Ibanez, both of Larkspur, and Melinda Ibanez of Oakland; his mother, Marthe Moribot of France; a sister, Marcell La Croix of France; and a granddaughter.
