Stephen Popovich

Larkspur – Stephen Popovich, postmaster of Larkspur, died unexpectedly Sunday at his home in Larkspur of natural causes.

His death came the day after he celebrated his 68th birthday with a party at his home.

Popovich was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y.

He served in the Army from 1940 to 1966, retiring as a sergeant major. He entered the Postal Service in 1967 as a clerk at the Larkspur Post Office. The following year he was named assistant postmaster, and in 1971 became postmaster.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, and four children, Michael Popovich of Larkspur, Patricia J. Popovich of New Castle, Colo., Gail Gomes of Maui, Hawaii, and Renee de Bruyn of Mt. Charleston, Nev.

Arrangements were pending at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.
