LEONA LEIBERT Dies At 75

Leona Goodman Leibert, 75, widow of Rabbi Julius A. Leibert, founder of Congregation Rodel Sholom in San Rafael, died yesterday in a San Francisco hospital after a long illness.

She was born in San Francisco. During World War I, she helped establish the Blind Relief Fund for blinded soldiers of England, France and Belgium. The fund was later named after her.

She and her husband retired to Marin County in 1956 and then started Rodef Sholom congregation. A year later he gave up the leadership of the congregation but continued his work in Marin County. He was chaplain at San Quentin, Folsom and Alcatraz prisons and Hamilton Air Force Base. He taught comparative religion at College of Marin.

Mrs. Leibert was awarded the Jerusalem Award last year by Teddy Kolleck, mayor of Jerusalem, for her work in the Israel Bond Organization.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carmel Day of La Pente, Los Angeles County, and Sharon Leibert and a brother Mervin J. Goodman, both of San Francisco.

Funeral was held today in San Francisco. Inurnment was at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, San Francisco.

Memorial contributions to a favorite charity preferred by the family.
