Specializing in animation, Mr. Nixon graduated with honors in art and was involved in an independent study program. He was a member of the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco.
Mr. Nixon also studied aviation history, was enrolled in flight training and belonged to the International Plastic Modeler’s Society, with which he was establishing a collection of scale models and aviation literature.
Described as a sensitive and caring young man by those who were close to him, Mr. Nixon served this summer as a counselor at St. Dorothy’s, a Camp Meeker camp for children with life threatening illnesses.
Mr. Nixon is survived by his mother, Lee Nixon of San Rafael; his sister, Reva Nixon of San Rafael; his father, John Nixon of Oakland; two grandmothers, Theresa J. Goldblatt of Mill Valley and Marguerite Nixon of Redding; and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Plans are being made for a memorial tribute to Mr. Nixon and Doug Lacey, a San Rafael pilot who also died in the crash and served as Mr. Nixon’s big brother through the Big Brothers program. Further information about the memorial tribute will be announced when plans are made final.
The family prefers contributions be made to Big Brothers of Marin or to the Cartoon Art Museum, 665 Third St., San Francisco 94107.
