Dies At Home Which is a Monument to His Love of Nature
William Lichtenberg, one of the oldest and most respected residents of this city, died here yesterday following an illness of several months. At the time of is death he was 74 years of age. He was the father of Mrs. G. A. Ziele, Mrs. A. W. Du Bois, Mrs. H. D. Johnson Jr., Marie, Rudolph and William Lichtenberg. “Rude” Lichtenberg was formerly undersheriff (sic) of this county for 12 years and is now one of the owners of Boyes Springs. William Lichtenberg is a mining man well known on the Pacific coast.
Deceased came to this city many years ago and established a home here which has become one of the beauty spots of the city. He spent fortunes in improving his home. He was one of San Rafael’s first boosters and continued to be one until he passed away. He said that San Rafael and its climate were not appreciated. The garden and shrubbery on his grounds were always a strong proof that he was right. For over 40 years he was one of the leading importing brokers in San Francisco and his name was know in business circles the world over.
He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. A man whom it was a pleasure to know. His death is deeply regretted here by countless friends who had been won to him by years of pleasant association and mutual esteem.
