BRADFORD MENTZ ALLEN

A memorial service for Bradford Mentz Allen of Texas, a former Marin resident, will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Novato Thursday at 8 p.m.

Allen died Jan. 9 while working in the engine room of a ship returning from Alaska. He was 56.

He was born in Texas and spent part of his childhood in Mexico. He received a degree in Marine engineering from Kings Point College.

He joined the Merchant Marine during World War II and worked on ships since then. He was a chief engineer.

He also worked at one time for the Mene Grande oil company in Venezuela.

He lived in Marin from 1966 to 1975 when he moved back to Texas.

He was a member of the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association.

He is survived by a sister, Rita Allen of Texas; and two daughters, Holly and Heather Allen of Novato.

Burial was in Texas. The family prefers memorial donations to the California Wind Children, in care of St. Francis Church.
