REV. RICHARD BARRON

The Rev. Richard V. Barron, former longtime priest at Sacred Heart Church in Olema, died at home in San Francisco Sunday, Jan. 14, 1989 (sic). He was 86.

Mr. Barron was born in San Francisco and came to Marin in the early 1950s when Sacred Heart was a tiny white clapboard church in Point Reyes Station.

During his stay of more than 30 years, Mr. Barron helped raise money to build a new church in Olema.

He retired nine years ago after celebrating 50 years as a priest. When he left, parishioners gave him a new car.

“We were all real fond of him,” said Joanne Haley, longtime church member. “He baptized six of our children and married two daughters.”

Haley said Mr. Barron liked to sing “Danny Boy” at social gatherings.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Wednesday in San Francisco. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.

A memorial service next month in Olema is being planned.

His family prefers donations to Sacred Heart Church, Olema, 94950.
