JAMES E. NELSON
James E. Nelson, 70, a retired band director and music instructor, died yesterday at his home at 247 D Street, San Rafael, following a short illness.
He had lived in Marin County a year and a half. With his son-in-law, Donald Sherwood of San Rafael, he operated the Woodland Avenue Lauderette (sic), 89 Woodland Avenue, San Rafael.
He was a native of Spencer, Iowa, and was a school teacher for 40 years. For nine years, he taught children of U. S. armed forces personel in Japan. He came to Marin County from Victoria, Tex.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Westside, Iowa, and the Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion in Victoria.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Nelson; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Sherwood and Mrs. Richard Hutchinson, both of San Rafael; a son, James M. Nelson of Houston, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Chester Triplett of Sutherland, Iowa, Mrs. Adolph Fabel of St. Louis, and three brothers, Harry, Theodore and Richard Nelson, all of Spencer, Iowa.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Keaton’s Mortuary. Interment will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
