HENRY J. KAEHLER
Henry J. Kaehler, founder of the Kaehler Construction Co. which built two Novato subdivisions, died early today at a local hospital. He was 82.
A native of Minnesota, Kaehler was the patriarch of a building contracting family which now involves his three sons and several of his grandsons.
His construction firm developed Marin Fur Village, a 30-home subdivision on Yukon Way in which those who bought the newly built houses were given a pair of minks to start ranches which would harvest the pelts.
Kaehler also built the 200-home Forest Park subdivision and is the builder of a group of duplexes on Kaehler Street in Novato.
He came to California from his native Minnesota in 1941 and founded his construction firm in El Cerrito shortly after World War II.
Kaehler undertook his first project in Novato in 1949 and had moved his entire operation to Marin County in 1951 but did not move his home to Novato until 1955.
Besides construction, Kaehler owned the Kaehler Cabinet Shop on Vallejo Street.
Kaehler served on the Planning Commission shortly after the city was incorporated and he was a charter member of the Grace Lutheran Church.
He retired in 1968 when he moved to Lake County where he lived until 1975 when he moved to the Tamalpais Retirement Center in Novato last year.
He is survived by three sons, Reuben W. Kaehler of Novato, Eugene H. Kaehler of Petaluma, and Rodger Lee Kaehle of El Cerrito; a daughter, Dolores Reynolds of San Diego; four brothers, Fred, William, Reinhold and Robert Kaehler of Minnesota; and one sister, Emma Hoffman of Minnesota; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are still pending with Redwood Chapel Funeral Home in Novato.

HENRY J. KAEHLER
A funeral service will be held for Henry J. Kaehler, a Novato building contractor, at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Grace Lutheran Church in Novato.
Kaehler, a resident of Novato since 1955, died Wednesday in a local hospital after a long illness. He was 82.
